A sidewalk project means there may be a little bounce to the beer kegs instead of dings in the pavement when delivery trucks unload.

The city is installing a rubber sidewalk at a spot near the Iowa State University campus where beer distributors unload hundreds of kegs from trucks for bars in the area.

All those heavy kegs hitting the ground have been cracking the concrete pavement.

Bellamy's USF commitment now 'very soft'

Ah, recruiting. It's hard to keep up with Dunedin running back Adaris "Darius" Bellamy, who was USF's first commitment toward the 2009 class back in spring. Bellamy tells the Times' Bob Putnam that his commitment to USF is now "very soft" -- if I'm counting commitments, that's "very nonexistent" -- and that he'd like to visit Iowa State, FSU and Florida, though only the Cyclones have offered.

Darks, a freshman from Austin, Texas, has shown to be a quick study when it comes to the college game, and wide receivers coach Jay Rodgers expects him to be on the field for the season opener.

"Darius is going to play," Rodgers said. "He is a player. I'm really excited about him, and he's really progressed really well in the last couple of weeks."

WR coach Jay Rodgers thinks that true freshman Darius Darks will play as a true freshman.

ESPN 150 Watch Lister Brandin Hawthorne will choose between South Florida, West Virginia, Michigan, Tennessee and Louisville during an Aug. 30th game against Olive Branch (Miss.) to be televised on ESPN, affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com reports.
Hawthorne will then take official visits to all those schools except South Florida and will travel to Iowa State instead.
